Of the laptop-like dockable Clovertrail tablets there are two that stand out. The ASUS VivoTab TF800 has a great keyboard, a stylish build and that all-important battery in the keyboard unit. The HP Envy is also up there and last week at CeBIT I had some quiet time alone with it thanks to the Intel booth. I really like it. I like it even more today as I’ve just found a price of $599 for the 64GB unit with keyboard.

7 teams are competing in the Ultimate Coder Challenge where showcase applications are being built for a Lenovo Yoga 13 to demonstrate the Intel Perceptual Computing hardware. I’m involved with the judging of the Ultimate Coder event and every week you’ll find an update from me as I analyze the teams progress. This is week 4 and this week there are some great videos, interesting artwork, honesty and a ton of coding to enjoy. Some, however, are still to incorporate any use of gesture control in their apps. Do they […]

The Samsung Series 7 is, in my eyes, one of the best Ultrabooks out there right now. It combines some of the best elements of Ultrabooks in one tidy package. I had a chance to check it out at CeBIT last week and I’m now sure it will be high on the list of many readers over the next 6 months.

As with many of its recent notebooks, Asus announced the Bu400 business Ultrabook several months ago — though it’s only just starting to near market availability. At CeBIT, Chippy got his hands on the Bu400V, the Core i7 model with discrete Nvidia GPU. The BU400 has a great port set and is a bit more square than the Zenbook series; I think it looks great — very professional and definitely suited for the boardroom. The BU400 has a big battery and is built for extra durability to survive against drops, […]

I’ve just got back from CeBIT but there are a number of experiences I still have to tell you about. Most are already in my YouTube channel so check that out. Here’s one that I think many of you will be looking at if you’re considering mobility and flexibility. The hybrid laptop, dockable Samsung ATIV Smart PC Pro is effectively an Ultrabook crammed into a tablet and a docking station with keyboard and USB ports.

As reported in last month’s article the elusive and much desired Asus Transformer Book looks to finally be available for purchase this month and is expected to be ready for consumers eager hands in Japan starting this week with the Core i5 version launching first and the Core i7 version expected at the end of March. For its Japanese release the hybrid PC will be known as the “TransBook” and will start at ¥119,800 (about $1,280) for the Core i5 version expected this week, still packing the same specs as before: […]

The Asus Zenbook Prime UX31A recently hit the market and interestingly stands out from the rest of the Zenbook crowd with a jet black aluminum color. Ever since Asus fired up their UX Ultrabook series, the devices have been styled in silver and grey. Not only is it a looker, but it’s also a solid deal at $1099 for a 1080p display and 128GB SSD.

7 teams are finding out how hard perceptual computing can be in Week3 of the Ultimate Coder Challenge where showcase perceptual computing applications are being built for a Lenovo Yoga 13. I’m involved with the judging of the Ultimate Coder event and every week you’ll find an update from me as I analyse the teams progress. We’ve also got a video for you and it’s a scorcher – due to the ‘event’ that happens 5 minutes into the video. It’s a must-watch and embedded below. I’ve read through 7 long […]
