The Toshiba Z10T has officially launched in Germany. This pro-level detachable is due in Q2 with what we believe is one of the new low-power Ivy Bridge CPUs. It will go head-to-head with the Fujitsu Q702, the Lenovo Helix, Samsung ATIV 700T and, if it ever reaches the market in quantity, the ASUS Transformer Book.

The Dell Latitude 6430U is here and under my fingers. 1366×768 and a 36Wh battery is a shocking thing to be seeing on a new Ultrabook in 2013 but wait because it turns out that if you don’t like that you can change it, and that’s one of the key features of this device. It’s aimed at business users and because of that Dell is offering a huge range of configuration options and in among the variants is an Ultrabook I really should buy; Maybe you too.

The first wave of Ultrabooks brought sleek, sexy laptops to the masses. The second wave increased performance and power savings. And now, in the latter half of the second wave, and approaching the third wave, things are getting really interesting. Intel’s Ultrabook project has stimulated the creation of the most exciting laptops in recent memory. They’re calling them Ultrabook Convertibles — and I can’t wait to get one.

A university in New Jersey, US has chosen to provide its students with the Lenovo Helix hybrid after evaluation against pure Ultrabooks and Tablets. Seton Hall University expects to deploy around 2000 units with the first batch coming in for final build and testing in just a few weeks. Others appear to have already received them and the first independent video review is already up at YouTube and embedded for you below.

Welcome back to the story of the UMPC. We left the story early in 2011 with the Viliv X70EX UMPC a 7-inch Windows 7 tablet running on Intel Atom. In the meantime we’ve seen a few niche products come and go and we’ve discussed the potential for a 7-inch ultra mobile PC on Clovertrail. Today we pick the story up again with the Acer Iconia W3.

Occasionally, like every business, we update our plans and predictions to make sure we’re on the right course. We’ve just done that for the Ultrabook sector and from what we can see there’s a lot of potential in 2013 for Ultrabooks to rise to the levels of sales that netbooks had three years ago – an ecosystem that many were happy to be in. Taiwanese company Inhon has introduced the Blade 13 Carbon Ultrabook with dimensions that make it the thinnest and lightest Ultrabook available, taking the throne from the NEC LaVie Z.

Leap Motion is an inexpensive Kinect-like 3D sensor that made waves when it was announced months ago thanks to its high fidelity low-latency tracking.
