Asus loves their teaser videos. Last week they put out a teaser about their forthcoming appearance at the annual Computex conference in Taipei, Taiwan. There’s not much to go on except for their slogan ‘We Transform’. With their commitment to convertible designs over the last year, we expect to see more of the same (a good thing). This time around, expect thinner and lighter devices with better battery life thanks to Intel’s forthcoming Haswell processors.
Last year Asus excited us with several cool Ultrabook announcements, including the Asus Transformer Book and TaiChi.
While we’re excited for Asus’ forthcoming announcements, we hope that they actually make it to market in a timely manner, unlike the Transformer Book which was announced around this time last year and is only just about to be available in the U.S.
I wrote recently about why my next Ultrabook would be a convertible, and I’ll be looking to Asus to bring a sleek Haswell unit to market. The first generation of convertibles were solid machines, but generally larger than I prefer to work as a tablet, except in some niche scenarios. I believe that Haswell will enable what I’ve called, “convertibles without compromise,” — fanless devices that are small enough to be used as tablets, but powerful enough to work like a desktop.
Intel has also been doing some teasing. A few months back the company released this image on Google Plus:
The style was in reference to the latest season of Game of Thrones which was due out around the time that the photo was released.
Intel will be revealing Haswell 4th generation Core processors at Computex and hopes to “Usher in Era of 2-in-1 Computing.”
I wonder how many Transformer Books they have to get rid of before they actually try to sell any Haswell units.
