Vault is a MicroSD card hardware security device, from Google.

Posted on 29 May 2015

Google’s ATAP team has announced Vault, a hardware-based, cross-platform microSD card based solution for encryption of data both at rest or in transit. ATAP is a Google unit that looks at Advanced Technologies and Products and among a number of their announcements on the Google IO stage in San Francisco was project Vault. With the help of former L0pht member .mudge ( Peiter Zatko) the team has developed a hardware encryption device that they think anyone, and any system can use. Starting with a developer kit and a business-focused customer based the […]

Lenovo Cast – DLNA and Miracast, but no competition for Chromecast and FireTV.

Posted on 28 May 2015

Having done some research into casting under Windows recently (it’s improving a lot in Windows 10 – read more here) I was interested to read about the new Lenovo Cast product. According to the spec sheet (below) it’s just a DLNA and Miracast unit which is a flexible choice for Windows 8 users but as a heavy Amazon Fire TV user I know that on-stick apps/streaming and a remote control can be easier in many cases. There’s DIAL too. Windows 10 supports this remote-app startup protocol so why doesn’t the […]

Lenovo Thinkpad 10 2015 comes with Atom X5 or X7

Posted on 28 May 2015

The business-focused Lenovo Thinkpad 10 tablet is being updated to include an Atom X5 or Atom X7 processor. It’s a small hardware change but it will accompany a Windows 10 operating system when it becomes available in the summer. You’ll be able to pair the Lenovo Thinkpad 10 with the Ultrabook keyboard or the folio keyboard.

Top 5 lightweight, powerful and value laptops

Posted on 27 May 2015

I am constantly on the lookout for the ultimate mobile laptop. It’s got an office-class CPU, has a ‘real’ SSD, an IPS screen and weighs under 1.3 KG / 2.9 pounds. Ideally it has a 5+ hours battery life, a full HD resolutions and costs $500 or less. It’s not easy to find a solution but I’ve come up with 5 options and detailed them below. 13-inch lightweight laptops Dell XPS 13 (2015) One thing is for sure. If you want a 13-inch ultrabook (which in my opinion should have a Core U-series CPU […]

Lenovo Yoga Tablet 2 10” (Windows) Review

Posted on 25 May 2015

Going into this review I had a very clear idea of what it was that I wanted out of the Yoga. I wanted something with great battery life, lightweight, moderate computing power and good “lapability”. I hate that word but it does cover that attribute quite well. Those of you who have read my first impressions will know that I was pretty chuffed with the device from the get go. Now a week later have things changed or am I am still in the honeymoon period? Read on to find […]

Lenovo Helix 2 at €1204, with Pro, LTE is recommended. (Germany)

Posted on 25 May 2015

The Lenovo Helix 2 was an impressive improvement over the original Helix but faded from our thoughts due to the pro-level price. An offer spotted in Germany brings it right back into the foreground. At €1204 (inclusive taxes – US equivalent about $1050 pre tax) you can get the Helix 2 tablet and keyboard (which has an added battery) along with the pen, Windows 8 Pro and 180 GB of SSD. Oh, LTE is also thrown-in for the price.   That’s a fantastic deal and if you’re like @mothertruckerer looking for […]

Asus Transformer Book T100 Chi review round-up: 78.5% average.

Posted on 22 May 2015

The review scentists at Notebookcheck finished their ASUS T100 Chi review last month and I’ve just read through it and compared it, virtually, with the Surface 3 and the Dell Venue 10 Pro I reviewed last week. Other reviews are out too and in summary it looks very good indeed for the T100 Chi despite it not having an Atom X7 CPU. There are a few issues to think about though. I have a feeling we’ll see an updated T90 Chi at Computex next week so if you’re looking for the ultimate in […]
