I’m sitting outside the event Entrance. There’s a huge rush from the camera people and the doors are open. We’ve got the press release and it looks like my predictions are correct. We should see 5 Moorestown devices today.
The event starts at 1400 here.
Chaos as TV crews push through for interviews.
1345. VIPs are in pla ce.
Looking at the Press release. We will see 5 Moorestown Devices today. Aava Mobile, CCI, EB, Inventec and Quanta.
1350. I’m blogging on the Touchnote today. All over 3G. Others appear to be suffering on Wifi. I hope 3G holds out!
1400. Starting in 2 minutes. Switching mobile phones to silent!
1404. Intel commercials playing.
1405 Toughbook just fell off the stand. Video playing Moorestown usage demos.
Anand now on Stage
1410 We’re hearing how the top websites have changed in 5 years. A Chinese website is now in the global top 10. Anand talks about the importance of emerging markets.
According to this slide 43% of smartphone users want a larger screen.
Slide highlghts the Menlow, Moorestown and Midfield. Announces 50x reduction in idle power on Moorestown.
Lots of Atom hornblowing going on here now. Atom is one year old. Slide highlights awards and press cuttings.
Now we’re seeing the OQO 2+ gaming demo from previous presentations. Old news.
Eyecon uPnp software being demonstrated. HD of course. Again on the OQO. with a twist….it’s now pushing out 2 HD files to remote uPnp players. The OQO isn’t decoding in this case.
Livecast demonstration showing ustream-type service from the Compal MID. Poor quality. Would have been nice to see HQ video being streamed but we’re still on Menlow devices.
6 software products announced but now we’re on to Hardware. One new Menlow device. Mini Shift.
Segway into a new Moorestown product…..
Not quite sure who that was to be honest. More info later.
Someone (famous actress?) on stage asking for a phone in a MID. Another segway…..
We’re now seeing a series of animations comparing Menlow to Moorestown.
‘All day battery life’ is here.
Looks like we’ll get Moblin 2 on MID demo. I think it’s going to be a generic overview. It will be interesting to see how they adapt and modify the UI for the smaller screen.
[See all the other generic Moblin 2.0 repors for the content that we’re hearing right now. Nothing new.]
Android runtime app being demonstrated. Looks very well integrated. This is an important app for Intel!
Apparently this is all being streamed from a Compal Menlow MID at livestream.com
Wind River now on stage giving us an update on their work with Moblin.
14:48
Missing so far: Timescales for products. Voice call demo.
Wind River demo’s some UI prototypes for Moblin 2.0. Looking very slick indeed.
Andand Is that a MID in your pocket?
Quake Open Arena demo’d on Moorestown. Looks OK but then again, I’m no gamer!
Finally details on the 5 Moorestown devices:
This is the Inventec device. 5 inch screen
Just spotted JKK of JKKMobile. Where’s JKK…
Looks like we’re getting into the final segment. Voice will be demonstrated later. Mobile Augmented Reality too. (We have a private showing lined up later so we’re not rushing out to demos like some journos are right now.
Now some Medfield info…
- Single chip solution
- 32nm process
- about 50% size of credit card (for the whole platform)
No more details at the moment though
Rounding up…. Anand is talking about happiness in the first year of Atom. “Ecosystem moving extremely fast. inch
Final word “Rock on inch
and that is it…..
We’ll be getting a private demo at 5pm (2hrs from now) so drop back here to see the devices in detail.
I am keeping refreash/F5 every few seconds.
Thanks Chippy for your hard work!!
Moorestown!!!!
pleasure!
Really exciting to get all these news live.
Thanks for live blogging this event. The developments from Intel are really exciting.
Just wanted to point out that “segway” is the name of the wheeled vehicle while “segue” is the transition from one item to another. The former was derived from the latter.
Oh shit. Sorry about that. I guess there are a lot more errors in the blog too. I’ll cleann it up later.
Thanks for feedback
I hope you don’t mind I am making a live translation to my language with your photos and content in my blog.
But all credit would be made to MIDMoves and you. Thanks
No problem. Get the word out that voice-enabled MIDs are here!
Thanks a lot :)
What happened to Viliv. We’ve yet to hear about anything from Viliv at Computex :-(.
MID/Phones are exciting, though. Chippy, was that device you referred toas a “Mini Shift” actually a mini version of an HTC Shift or is that just a device that happens to look like a Shift?
Where is the prototype of moorestown device that intel has show for nearly 2 years?
Now it not came out?
Intel has failed another time. If it does not coming out this prototype of device

Can I double check – Moorestown can run Quake? Does this mean it will be able to run any PC application?
Nice coverage Chippy… sorry I missed you last nite. I was sitting behind Richard & Barry.. the press frenzy was quite interesting
Thank you Chippey for the coverage!
I think that previous design of Moorestone MID was just an illustration of the idea, nothing more. What do you think? Does Itnet comment it?
