So far I like what i’m seeing on the UMID. I had a chat with them and the changes are a direct result of feedback that they have received from the community. The screen now opens further, the memory will be upgraded to 1Gb and the USB ports are now using standard connectors. The device will be available with 1.2 and 1.6Ghz Atom CPUs. Launch is Q4.

Note that this is a sample device. The mouse pointer is not finalised. Neither is the finishing.

I was interested in purchasing the UMID M1 but too many flaws kept me from purchasing the device (dongles, screen hinge, etc.) but seeing this new redesigned model seems to have corrected all my gripes about the machine. I am seriously excited about picking this pocketabe computer up when it is released. And +1 for the mouse pointer ;)

Is that a WWAN symbol I see on the left front edge with the WiFi/BT symbols by the status indicator?

  3. Chippy says:

Yes. A 3G version will be available, as with the M1

Looking at IMG_0561 at the gallery, there appears to be a cover for another port to the left of the headphone jack. What exactly is that? Any details on that? Looks like a screen on the port cover. Could that be external monitor?
