Acer has taken what seems like an age to get stock of the 1825 PT and PTZ out to distributors but finally I have managed to get hold of one. I will be reviewing it over the next two weeks to give you an insight of the devices capabilities but in the meantime here is the unboxing video.

How does it look to you? Netbook upgrade?
[I’m interested in seeing how Guy’s testing goes. With 3G and a fast SSD, this could be a nice upgrade from my Touchnote which, with the extra battery that gives me 8 hours, weighs over 1.5KG! – Chippy]

“Guy”?
Anyway, I hope you’ll be testing it with the default configuration :-)

He’s art of the UMPCPortal team. Recently joined. Be nice to him ;-)
Yu,
It will be as it is out of box.
Thanks
I have both an Acer Aspire One AOD250 netbook (Atom N280) and Gateway EC1803u (Core 2 Solo, one of Acer’s brands). They both suffer from overheating.
I had stayed away from Acer due to its poor build quality a long time ago, and was enticed by some very attractive pricing on these 2 recently acquired units.
In the meantime, I had used Toshiba almost exclusively, but have gone
almost exclusively with Lenovo for the past 4 years (X61, X200s). One Toshiba (Portege M400 Core Duo Tablet PC) died on me (it won’t power up). The Lenovos have been trouble-free.
I hope that the unit you’re about to review doesn’t suffer from overheating issues.
For the moment I am staying away from Acer and my most recent acquisition has been a Lenovo T400.
Richard, so far the 1825 PT has been very quiet and not at all hot. There has been some warm air coming from the left hand exhaust vent but no more than a standard netbook.
I am doing to run some video playback tests tomorrow so will be interesting to see if it gets warm then.
Hope you’ll have a chance to look inside the case – interested to see the expansion possibilities (GPS?). Bought one of these a few days ago and find it pretty likeable, just getting used to Windows again…
Yup. Lets see a pic inside that access cover!
Is there a model with an active digitizer?
John, both the PT and the PTZ come with two point multi touch capacitive displays.
Acer state that the screen is both pen and touch input but don’t package a stylus. Iam currently waiting on a third party capacitive stylus to give inking a test.
I remember that the previous model 1820PTZ, had a resistive and an active digitizer – is this not the same for these but with capacitive screens?
Actually I can’t remember the 1820PTZ being claimed to have an ACTIVE digitizer, but rather just a stylus for the resistive touch screen. Does my memory fail me there?
Are these available in the UK now? I can’t find one on the net. What price are we looking at and if 3G is not opted for is it possible to expand without soldering?!
Re UK availability. I bought one from Lambda-Tek (http://www.lambda-tek.com/; Quick Code: B366528; GBP 677.38). They seemed pretty efficient. I don’t know about built-in 3G, I swap a USB dongle between machines.
i am using one right now and yes, there was no stylus, pls. post websites on where to buy the stylus for this unit,am very excited to use them, thanks
