Viliv have just shipped an N5 to me (and I suspect other bloggers) for long-term testing and it’s expected here on the 25th. (Friday) so if all goes to plan, you should be seeing an unboxing video on Friday afternoon. I’ll try and sync up with JKK to get a live session going too.
As for availability, I’m expecting the delivery here to coincide with an announcement of pricing and availability at Dynamism so stay tuned over the next few days.
The N5 has been the #1 device on the UMPCPortal product list for a long time now so obviously a lot of people are interested in it. You can find out more, see videos and view additional information from other websites through our Viliv N5 tracking page.

O M G !
It’s coming :D
Eagerly awaiting. Prepare to sell my UMID BZ in the meantime.
Hell yeah we’re interested in the N5! It’s been six months already!
actually, it has been 13 months, since the 2009 COMPUTEX announcement stated that a 5″ keyboard device would be on display. Viliv chose not to introduce it then, but apparently did show the device to bloggers in a non-disclosure session in May 2009 at COMPUTEX.
Thanks for that. I knew it had been a long time, but I didn’t realize it was that long. Even longer in this tablet dominated market…
Hopefully, a bunch of people put their used BZs up for sell. I may get one for cheap.
Any confirmation of greater than 1.6 GHz CPUs?
No. At this stage it looks like Viliv will push a 1.3Ghz version out to the U.S. I wonder if Oaktrail, a platform that Viliv say is a fairly easy platform to swap-out, will bring 1.9Ghz capability in 2011. They might also be holding the 1.6Ghz version (or 1.8) back for later. I have no formal information on this at the moment though.
Thanks for the info. That’s unfortunate. I guess I’ll continue the waiting game.
it seems 1024×600 is becoming a standard resolution for MID, UMPC and Netbooks :)
No reason they could not have had a 1.6 GHz proc and a 60 GB HDD. I would have dropped some cash on that! My old, long-gone OQO had specs that beat the N5, albeit at a MUCH higher price point.
So weird they are delaying preorders till after the things are being shipped. The whole point of preorders is to order something before the release date. Just odd.
We are not receiving a standard order. We are recieving a production model to review before the main shipment starts.
You’re getting the device to bump the emotions of other poeople and make them to buy such device :)
Slight delay on the delivery. It got stuck in customs. Will take a few work days to sort this out as my company now needs to register as an official importer. I guess I went over my quota for imports!
hasn’t it arrived yet?
does the N5 have the poulsbo platform
how is gaming graphics on the system comapred to gma945
i dont think the menlow platform has teh right drivers to handle gaming
as well as the gma945
Forget any 3D gaming on the N5. GMA500 (as used in N5) is very weak in that department.
thanks Chippy, thats what I thought
