UMID Korea now officially has the mbook SE (Special Edition) listed on their site. The mbook SE is just like the mbook BZ [Portal page] that Chippy thoroughly covered, but it has twice the RAM at 1GB and replaces the BZ’s 1.2GHz Intel Atom Z515 CPU with the Atom 530 running at 1.6GHz. The wireless has also seen a slight augmentation; it now supports WiFi N, in addition to B/G. Aside from these differences (and a white paintjob instead of silver/black one), the BZ and the SE are identical, optical mouse pointer and all.
The mbook SE is selling for $568 in Korea, and thanks to Pocketables, we have confirmation that the UMID mbook SE will eventually be available in the US through Dynamism.

Am trying to get one for testing. Compared to the Viliv N5 it will probably be easier for thumbing and have a brighter screen. 1.6Ghz + 1GB (on Windows XP) will bring a huge bump in multi-tasking capability BUT – If they don’t update the SSD to be slightly faster, there will still be the occasional problem when the SSD can’t keep up with demand.
No 3G is a huge mistake. I mean, this is supposed to be a mobility device right? so it should have a mobility internet connection built it, shouldnt it?
I don’t get it when hardware designers overlook these crucial details because they can easily be a deal breaker.

It’s not really a ‘white paintjob’ is it???…other white UMID’s were white plastic not painted….
If the price stays below $600 US then I’d overlook the toy like white appearance of the device since the hardware specs are fairly decent. The only thing the N5 has over the UMID SE seems to be external appearances. Since I don’t intend on making my UMPC a fashion statement then looks < specs.
I cannot tell from the picture – is the optical mouse still sunk in the frame or did they fix it to be flat ?
Looks sunken in to me. Too bad for that.
Just looked at the new model on the makers website. Seems the SE model is cheaper than the BZ, I would think it would be the other way around.

This solution is a low end one, with a only 400mHz CPU, it’s speed are not pleasing at all, also, after testing, the performance is near unacceptable, the carftwork of housing in details is not make it like a good electronics, the LCD surface is uneven if you make a touch on it, 2ndly, the battery performance is nearly unacceptable, the battery will get very hot within only 20 sec after you powered on. The speed is very limited due to a Via based 400Mhz CPU, but price is lowest among all solutions.
Rate: buy for a few month and throw away

This solution is a midium one,what’s interesting is the CHIP are China made, it’s performance could be saying stable, the best advante for this solution is it support high resolution video, it support 720P, comparing in all solutions, it gets the best video playing performance.

This solution is based on samsung module, which has been reconized as a stable solution, it’s CPU is bit faster than rockchip,other feature pretty like rockchip.
4. Marvell 88AP166 Based solution
This solution accounts for highest solution and best performance.
With a 800mhz CPU, it gains a pretty good speed in using it, another feature is quite different from the other 3: due to not using any PET layer on LCD surface, it has better touching experience than other 3 solutions, what’s more interesting is it has GPS moudule built in(ST-Erisson GNS7560). it is expecting to be on market at beginning of July, very expecting.
