It makes a lot of sense for MSI to wait for the incoming ultra mobile PC platform from Intel rather than launch early with the relatively old Menlow platform and that’s exactly what they’ve gone public about today.
MSI WindPad 100 Delayed, Waiting on Oak Trail.
Oaktrail isn’t expected until 2011 but it represents quite an important redesign for Intels lowest power windows-compatable computing platform. In summary you can expect about 20% performance increase along with about 20% in-use battery life increase. Standby / screen-off battery life should increase by a larger margin. Why not use Moorestown?
Moorestown is the same. We’re talking about active, in-use, screen on , connected scenarios.
Moorestown will use less power due to more mobile optimized binning and better cooperation with the Operating System. However, you can’t get Windows to use Moorestown because it has no legacy device support.
There’s price that’s needed to be paid supporting ACPI, BIOS, PCI and Serial ATA along with Windows. Guess what that is?

On another thought, unless Intel plans to introduce 32nm-successor shortly after Oak Trail’s release, I can’t see how it will not turn out to be yet another “Menlow”. The 32nm successor to Pine Trail supporting better graphics and faster performance will likely be released same time as Oak Trail does.
