Via jkOnTheRun I’ve just read about some cool working spaces which includes Kathy Sierras vintage trailer.
Earlier this year I was thinking about a similar project – an office in a mini van. The problem was that I came to a dead-end because of the lack of inspiration I got from some of the boring boring touring vans there are out there. Apart from being an inspirational design, it needs to have:
Power for PC and lighting.
Solar and wind power generators (why not!)
Toilet.
Possible overnight capability for two adults and a child.
Gas cooker.
Good sound system.
Can be used as normal transport.
I’m sure there’s something out there.
The two U’s make this possible – ultra mobile PC and UMTS and in 2007 I intend to test this scenario out for a week. It will make a nice journal series posting every day from a different country in central Europe.
In the meantime, I’m pretty happy with my new office setup. The ultra mobile PC makes a really tidy dual-screen PC with a monitor and keyboard.

Have you found a 12 volt LCD Monitor? It appears to be the only part of your desktop that requires AC current.
Wouldn’t it be nice if there was a USB 2.0 powered monitor!!
Actually I think most LCD panels are DC powered with an AC adaptor. Mine is 12V. Probably about 20W requirement but i’m sure I can find something more efficient!
I’m surpised we arent starting to see poartable 12″ lightwight LCD screens. Would be nice to have one for the ultimate mobile office.

Of course the alternative is the eMagin Z800 HMD. You can use this anywhere if you don’t need to be aware of your environment at the same time. http://www.3dvisor.com/
