New UMPCPortal team members. #1

Posted on 02 May 2008, Last updated on 11 November 2019 by

There have been a lot of changes on UMPCPortal in the last few weeks. The migration to the WordPress blog is the most visual of these but perhaps more important in the long run are the addition of new team members. You might have spotted that some of the recent news items have not been made by either Steve or Kornel. As newcomers let’s introduce ourselves.

I’m one of those new team members and you might now me as “The_Niles” on the forum where I have moderated over the past months. Aside from those duties I was delighted that Steve saw fit to let me write for the front page. I have been excited about the UMPCs and the possibilities they promise since the initial leak of the promotional video two years ago and I have owned an ASUS R2H for a year. Right now, thanks to Steve, I own an Everun S6S. I use UMPCs both professionally and for entertainment purposes. As a student of Public Administration I need a device where I can store and get to information easily and that allows me to create and edit documents. I use OneNote frequently both to takes notes in classes and annotate papers. This is the task for which I bought the R2H.

As I like to write you can expect from me several in depth articles on a wide range of subjects. I have already announced on the forum that I have had an R2E for a few weeks of testing and after some delay due to the organizational changes the first impressions should be up shortly. I also like to game, even on UMPCs, and I will be writing about that as well.

Please let all of know what you think of my articles and join all of us on the UMPCPortal forums.

Congrats on the promotion. Based on your good work in the forums, I expect great things on the front page.

I would be interested in in-depth articles on UMPCs that you have had for more than 6 months. What do you use them for? What drives you up a wall with your UMPC? Why should (or should not) one buy a second hand unit of that type? We rarely get good reviews after the first excitement of a new toy. Tell us about your R2H.

Yeah, a long-term review of the R2H would be interesting to read. Its was…let me see…about the fourth origami device out of the gate nearly 2 years ago now.

    Steve.

  3. kornel says:

Hurray for Thorsten! Its a pleasure working with you :)

  4. The Niles says:

I had started a review of my R2H shortly before I got rid of it with exactly that frame of mind. A one year of use kind of review.

I’ll get on it. Keep in mind though that I no longer own the R2H so I would have to do it from memory.

    Thanks for the welcome.

I’m glad to see someone onboard with a ‘pen input’ interest rather than keyboard centric.
