There are ‘value add’ features all over the Galaxy Tab experience. Audio, video, docking and one very important one apps.
Samsung have obviously spent a lot of time and money developing a suite of apps for the Galaxy Tab and, like the video experience, it lifts the device above most Android experiences.
In this video I go over all of Samsungs Tab-specific apps. One feature you’ll see a lot is multiple windows panes within applications when they are used in landscape mode. As screens get bigger you’ll see a lot more of this and it’s a feature that Microsoft will have to take note of if they ever want to compete in the consumer tablet space.
In summary, the Samsung apps add a lot to the device but there’s a few areas that need improvement. The Contacts and Calendar app definitely need a bit of spice in my opinion.
Enjoy the video and let me know what you think in the comments below and check out the rest of our Galaxy Tab coverage here.
If possible, I would like to see you do some more testing on the document editing capabilities using the ThinkFree suite (or alternative software).
Thanks.
In the video you couldn’t copy text in the email app and I think you implied that you thought that the standard Google Mail app didn’t support copying text either. The standard Google Mail app should have a menu option Menu/More/Select Text, so perhaps there’s something buried similarly deep in the Samsung app?
I’ve looked again, I can’t find anything ;-(
And what about the apps that are made for android smartphone in 850*480 or under ? do they look good ?
In general, yes. There are a few apps that i’ve seen that don’t scale up beyond 800×480 but that’s to be expected.
I would like to see what happens when the apps don’t scale properly. Also, what percentage of apps are doing that?
does it have a video file size limit? moto droid x has a maximum video file size of 2gb.
I’ve emailed you two questions but have not had a response.
Can you use an external GPS receiver via USB with the Tab?
Hi. I have being reading most of your Galaxy Tab related videos and posts on carrypad and find it quite interesting. Being an owner of a Galaxy S phone, which I had many many problems with such as LAG and short battery life (and real short!!), I was wondering if such problems exists in the Tab.
And so far, I do realise that you do not have many widgets on the home screens. Well, for me, I am a heavy widget user. Afterall, widgets are things that differentiate between Androids and iOS. I’m wondering if widgets will affect the performance of the Tab.
Well, I’m rather sorry for not being able to take part in your live video for the Galaxy Tab, but I tried. And having many questions with regards to the Tab before making a decision to purchase it, I hope all of it can be answered.
Thanks!!
If you see the battery icon in this video you will notice that it’s shedding juice very quickly!
received my tab today! :D its AMAZING! :D
was wondering though, which app did you use for twitter ? it wasnt the official twitter one right?
