The HTC Rhyme is an impressive little smartphone. I’ve been playing with it for the last few days and it’s got that signature HTC build-quality. Aside from being well built, I’m digging the size of HTC Rhyme. It isn’t a monster like the aptly named HTC Titan, instead, it fits quite nicely in the hand. It’s light, solid, and doesn’t require abnormally large hands to operate effectively. The HTC Rhyme also comes standard with a charging dock which doubles as a bluetooth speaker system.
It’s also got something that we’ve never seen before on a phone. HTC is calling it the ‘charm’, and it’s a notification LED cube that plugs into the speaker headset and can then be trailed to wherever you want it. HTC is targeting this feature toward women (or men, I suppose) who keep their phone in a big purse or bag and often miss notifications or calls because they can’t feel the vibration or hear the ring in a crowded space. The applications for the charm are somewhat limited, but I’m willing to be someone will come up with a neat and perhaps not intended use for the charm. Anyway, I’ve prepared an unboxing and overview video of the HTC Rhyme to get you familiar with the device.
