Update: Lenovo have now announced this as the Miix2
The wheels are starting to turn again for the Windows-based handhelds that were once called UMPCs. First the Acer Iconia W3 and now something from Lenovo. The Lenovo Miix 8 was shown at a Microsoft press event at Computex although there’s little information available.
If you check out the video of the Miix 10 below you’ll get a feel for the Lenovo Miix 10 that appeared in-person at Computex last week. The Miix-8 is likely to be based on a similar concept and platform (given the branding.) There are more pictures at Win8China.
Given the more relaxed screen requirements for Windows 8.1 and the fact it was shown at a Windows 8.1 preview event it’s likely to be a late 2013 device.
We’ll put this on our checklist and get back to you when we get more information. In the meantime, maybe the 10-inch version will interest you.

Hoping for microUSB charging at 10 W or more. A full USB port that can provide more than 500 mA because most external mechanical drives pull more than that. A mouse in the bezel because that’s more useful than an active stylus for most people.
If only this was a ThinkPad. Then the keyboard case will have a trackpoint.
There was another temash tablet shown during the keynote too, any info on that too?
Have you heard of the 4GB Ram for mobiles?

wishing for the following on any 7-9 inch device:
– micro USB charging
– keyboard touch cover similar to surface
– next gen Atom CPU
– SSD, not emmc
– microSD slot
– ability to act as external drive
– Mobile 3G (but not really important)
– IP67 and MIL-STD rating (pushing it)
Wow, 3 spam comments in a row.
@Sabino
I definitely want a thumb targeted mouse in the bezel and the ability charge the tablet through microUSB. A full SD card slot would be nice because I already have a 128 GB one.
I want mouse control, too – addicted to the track point. The 8 inch version looks sleek – kind of like the Lenovo phone. I wouldn’t mind a pen in there à la Note.
You should probably do something with these spam comments like the above 3.
