XP after June 2008. Plenty of options.

It looks like there are definately a few options for getting Windows XP after June 2008. All OEMs can take the ‘system builder’ route to provide XP until Jan 2009 as we mentioned on Podcast #15.

JKK has the summary of options and highlights that OEMs should be shipping XP restore CDs with editions of Vista that include downgrade rights.

Excellent news! Good to have some clarity from Microsoft, and nice of them to provide it well in advance of the 30th of June(!)

So it means that UMPCs and MIDs now fall under the definition of a “ULCPCs”? They only said smaller screen and less powerful processor …

  3. chippy says:

No, it means that anyone, with any hardware platform can (and always could) use either the Vista downgrade options (for the foreseeable future) or the ‘system builder’ process (until Jan 2009) to deliver XP on any platform. No hardware restrictions.

  4. jkkmobile says:

yep, hardware restrictions are only for lower price:

    netbooks: xp home for ~$20

    umpcs: xp pro for ~$80

So when Smartphones will run on similar hardware to that of the MIDs and UMPCs of today, why would anyone want to have Windows Mobile if they can have XP …
