Fujitsu announced a slew of new Windows 8 devices a few days ago and among them is what will probably be the poster boy for Bay Trail tablets – with an Atom Z3770, 4GB RAM and a 10.1-inch screen with a special touch.
The spec sheet for the Q584 is long and so far looks to be the best specced Bay Trail tablet announced. That amounts to the Atom Z3770, 4GB RAM, USB 3.0 plus micro USB port, up to 128GB eMMC storage, micro SD card slot and the crown jewel, a 10.1-inch 2560 x 1600 (16:10 aspect ratio) multi touch display with a digitizer layer supporting pen input. And that’s not all.
Also on board are dual band Wifi, Bluetooth 4.0, optional 3G/4G, NFC and GPS, front and rear webcams. The Q584 is also dust proof, water proof, has a strengthened display and is MIL-STD tested.
One option that is missing is an actual video output of any kind on the tablet itself but it appears that will be enabled by connecting via an accessory cable which will provide either HDMI or VGA output.
More options are available in the form of accessories which include a docking keyboard, desktop dock and what Fujitsu describes as “Shells”, a Smartcard shell and a Functional shell that would allow mountable accessories. All this is available in a device promising 10 hour battery life from its lightweight chassis that starts at 640g and 9.9-16mm thin, depending on how its configured.
Pricing has not been disclosed but availability is expected at the end of November. So how do you think the Fujitsu STYLISTIC Q584 ranks against the likes of the buy paxil online Dell Venue 11 Pro, HP Omni 10 and others?
The battery life is 15.5 hrs (the 10h in the pdf of the US version is tbd). This is consistent with the 38 Wh battery and the 2.2W SDP of the Atom CPU. The Japanese equivalent model is the Arrows Tab QH55/M http://www.fujitsu.com/global/news/pr/archives/month/2013/20131008-01.html with a video on youtube here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yfUJjK3B690. The digitizer is also a Wacom one, with the pen integrated into the chassis.
I think this is the one I’m going to get. My U820 is still going after over 4 years so I can attest to the quality of their products. The price looks very high at over $1000 (Japanese press release mentioned some Yen prices) but if it can last that long again it’ll be worth it. I do a lot of work via RDP on the go over 3G so speed is not the main concern but robustness, high resolution and precision control are essential. The ability to use this properly on a lap (unlike the still not confidence inspiring Surface setup) gives this the edge.
I’ve a u820 (I’ll never get rid of it!) and p1630. I love their products, but I hope it’s not an indication of their screen brightness, which while not as bad as HP, seems below average.
My mind WAS set on the Venue 11 pro, but this looks gorgeous. Comes down to reviews. Screen brightness and color/battery life/cost etc.
A high quality product with I’m sure a proportionately high price. I’m still hoping to see that virtual bezel Intel was showing off because I hate huge bezels on notebooks but they’re great on tablets. I’m willing to sacrifice on other features like no super high PPI screen, average battery life, no 3G/4G, no NFC, no rear webcam, 64 GB eMMC and no GPS.
I am waiting for a smart frame enabled tablet as well, but I don’t think that we will see that tech on a Bay Trail machine.. it might end up being a Haswell exclusive.
I’m waiting on such a hybrid as well. I’m hoping for a 10.1″ screen while in notebook mode and smaller in tablet mode. If it’s going to be on a Core i based device and then I’m willing to have an 11.6″ screen with thin bezels and the virtual bezel during tablet mode. Any larger, then I’m just going to opt for a regular 10.1″ net/notebook without a touchscreen.
Looks interesting. I go back to the Fujitsu Stylistic ST5020, P1610 and a U820. They were all costly, but all were well built and worked pretty much as advertised. My biggest concern was already mentioned by another commenter: the screen had better be IPS and very bright. I love the combination of USB 3.0 and BayTrail, this is a very promising design. Remains to be seen how much it will cost !!! (not to mention the accessories, Fujitsu always *kills* you with those)
This is the baytrail device I have been waiting to see in terms of specs its just unfortunate that its from Fujitsu as that seems to carry an unreasonably high premium added on to the cost.
I enjoy on the spec sheet of the tablet it lists these right next to eachother.
0 x SmartCard slot
1 x SmartCard slot
I am guessing this will be a very expensive tablet though, all of their previous ones have been.
looks really interesting, nice specs + dust/waterproof! What I would want in a model like this is a touch screen hardware lock, so you can keep the unit running with eg. gps software, without worrying about accidently touching the screen.
