We wrote recently about a ground-breaking low price for the Acer Aspire M3 Ultrabook. At that point we mentioned that the device would be delivered with a Core i3 CPU. We got word today that that not only is this model packing a non-Turbo Core i3 but it’s also devoid of any discrete graphics. Be careful when you reach for the €599 version in Europe.
Here’s the PR we got from Acer Germany. It may not apply to other countries.
My translation:
The new Acer Timeline Ultra M3 models are available in April in 4 configurations for the recommended retail price (including sales taxes): 599,- Euro (Core i3, Intel HD 3000 Graphics and 320 GB HDD with 20 GB SSD on mainboard), 699,- Euro (Core i3, NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 640M and 500 GB HDD with 20 GB SSD on mainboard), 799,- Euro (Core i5, NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 640M and 500 GB HDD mit 20 GB SSD pn mainboard), 1.199,- Euro (Core i7, NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 640M and 256 GB SSD).
Note that there’s no Bluetooth in the Acer M3 either. Full specifications, more news available in our Acer M3 tracking page.
So while it’s disappointing not to see an Ultrabook with discrete graphics for 599 Euro, the Acer Aspire Timeline Ultra M3 (phew!) is still breaking into new pricing territory – 599 is 50 euro cheaper than the cheapest street price for an Ultrabook today. If nothing else, we have to thank Acer for that!
