I’ve been using the U820 as my only mobile device for a week now. For ad-hoc work it’s been fantastic. Small enough to take everywhere and big enough to be able to scan a ton of email or RSS feeds or to tap out the occasional long email or post, like this. The only thing I need to fix is the resume time. From hibernation it takes minutes. Longer than a cold boot. Something is definitely wrong!
The Mifi makes accessing the Internet as comfortable as being at home. Built-in 3G would be slightly easier but I wouldn’t be able to advertise UMPCPortal.com as the hotspot name!
I just got mine 2 weeks ago (with 3G) and love it. I have found that I can be out and about while getting a ton of work done on the device and easily get 6-7hrs of usage. With Win7 it is really running well (with ready boost) and dealing with 1gb is not a big deal. I have also added a 32gb SD and 32gb compact flash for media. The GPS with Garmin is amazing and really makes it a great little travel companion. There was a little spec of plastic between the surface of the touch panel and the LCD so I had to send it to Fujitsu for replacement and have been missing the device for a week now… So my Sammy NC10 has been carrying me. I am headed back to Seattle for a week at the end of the month and plan to try using only the u820 for a week to see if it is possible to make it through all day sessions at the conference.
