Filling in one of the obvious gaps on the existing GPS-enabled MIDs is Isreal-based Telmap who have partnered with Intel to bring turn-by-turn, local search, traffic info and pedestrian routing to Moblin.
“As a leading authority in mobile location services, Telmap is embracing the MID category to bring rich navigation and location based services to mobile users. This announcement further highlights Telmap’s multi-platform approach to devices and the addition of Linux to its extensive list of supported OS platforms….Combining its advanced search features, Telmap can provide live, location-aware and real time information to any user in-car or on foot.”

hm….tangoGPS and now Telmap. Sounds great! free and under Linux…no more excuses for win xp :-)
it’s just questions of (very short) time where the only excuse to use still Windows is when you WANT to pay money for it.
The MID version was faulty and not running very well, in addition it was for moblin 1/.0 only, based on GTK+ and most features were lacking, many crashes etc…
The QT version for meeGo is still not available.
After that – the device itself was not a big hit… it’s also prone to crash , bad media player, not such a good support for external repositories (once you update them and install some stuff updating python the device stops working properly – known issue!!!), so i wouldn’t “jump” on the opportunity.
Give it some time, take the meego which should be more stable under nokia’s hand…
