Those of you that have been following me for a while know that I also have my finger in another pie…
The UMPC is often referred to as a failed category and from 2011-2012 my ‘old’ site, UMPCPortal.com, was indeed very quiet. Since CloverTrail tablets and Windows 8 came on the scene though things have picked up considerably and it’s arguable that these Atom-based, long battery life, fanless and ultra mobile devices are the new UMPC. Huge increases in traffic levels over there would seem to indicate that the products are hitting the mark.
UMPCPortal for ultra mobile PC solutions.
If you’re interested in a more mobile, longer battery life Windows 8 experience you might want to check out some of the things happening over there. It’s an area I’ll be continuing to keep my eye on.
Since companies seem to be staying away from UMPCs right now, I certainly hope an 11.6″ x 7.2″ device isn’t considered a UMPC. I’d like to see more devices in that size range.
In the current market, these devices are the only ultra mobile PCs! I think we’ll see experimentation in 2013 though. 7″ is theoretically possible.
