This will be the last in-depth Everun video for a while. I’ve spent a lot of time on it and although the Everun is an enjoyable ultra mobile PC and deserves a lot of time, I really should re-focus on the big UMPCPortal picture. At least for a few days anyway.

The 26-minute video shows a number of common applications being used, mostly successfully, on the little Everun but a word of prior warning, there are limitations to this device. Its NOT a productivity machine. Don’t expect to be running all these applications at the same time. Don’t expect stellar video performance and don’t expect to run too many applications concurrently. You’ll hear my surprise and near excitement though, as I work through some Internet app’s, MS word and a successful display of a powerpoint presentation. A large section of the video reveals the limitations of media playback capabilities but there’s a superb demo of one type of video playback in the last 3rd of the video that’s a must-see for all DivX fans. I demonstrate a 4mbps 720×400 video that’s one of the best I’ve ever seen on a UMPC. In order to preserve the quality, I won’t be posting that section to YouTube. I’m going to force you all to download a hi-res WMV or DivX version of the 26minute video.

Summary: YouTube works if you knock the video size down on the in-line player. iTunes installs and works for any download but fails on video playback. Powerpoint presentations should be OK. Word 2003 was quick to start up and operate, and the common Google Internet applications (iGoogle, GMail, Google Reader) work well. (Reader is a dream with the keyboard.) The Big Plus though is DivX. Amazing performance. I never expected this 600Mhz device to turn in the quality that I saw.
