The MSI S30 is a forthcoming Ultrabook alternative (falling into the more general ‘ultrathin’ category). Though we’ve been eyeing up the 11.6-inch S20 Ultrabook convertible for some time, it looks like the S-series from MSI will consist of both Ultrabook and non-Ultrabook devices. The S30 is a 13.3-inch ultrathin that uses hardware similar to what you’ll find in an Ultrabook, but doesn’t quite fit Intel’s Ultrabook definition — the trade-off being that the S30 will likely be less expensive.
Here are the MSI S30 specs:
- Intel Core i3 Ivy Bridge processor
- Windows 8
- 13.3-inch 1366×768 display
- Up to 1333MHz RAM (unspecified amount)
- 500GB HDD or 64GB SSD
- Ports: 1x USB 2.0, 1x USB 3.0, full SD, ethernet/LAN (RJ45), full HDMI, full VGA, 3.5mm mic, and 3.5mm headphone
- 22.8mm thick, 1.4kg
MSI has the S30 officially listed on their site as well.
At 1.4kg and 22.8mm you’re looking at a quite thin and light machine, but not as quite as thin as you’ll find in Ultrabook — Intel requires that Ultrabooks with screens 13.3-inches or less be no more than 18mm thick.
MSI hasn’t said when the S30 will be available or for how much, but we’re guessing that it will be priced around $500. As for a release date — we’d hope to see the S30 on the market in the next few months, lest MSI wants it to compete with forthcoming Haswell devices! While they’re at it, they should also release the S20!
I remember the MSI X340, these guys were probably the original inventor of the ultrabook. I wonder why they never took off.
In Sweden this one will cost 5 490 kronor (~550 Euro) with a Core i3-3217U and 128 GB SSD. Hoping to get the chance to review it, looks like a decent machine for the money.
Why lord why!!
why the 1366×768 resolutions!!!! argg!!!
From that pic, looks like it’s got removable battery too! That may be worth mentioning
Thank you for every other wonderful article. The place else may just anybody get that type of information in such a perfect method of writing? I have a presentation next week, and I’m at the search for such info.
