There’s a strange excitement over the Samsung Mondi [specifications]. It’s basically a PocketPC and yet that MID form factor, the hi-res screen and the slide out keyboard make it look incredibly appealing for mobile internet work.
Jenn at Pocketables has just received hers and posted a set of unboxing pics. She’s happy with the build quality and pleased at the surprise set of car mount accessories. We’ll have to wait for her to dive into the software and give her feedback on the user experience, speed and of course, the keyboard.
Unboxing the Samsung Mondi (SWD-M100).
Meanwhile, Vincent Nguyen of Slashgear has posted his first impressions of the device along with an overview video that I’ve embedded below. Vincent is, like Jenn, impressed with the build quality but isn’t convinced about the keyboard. A full review is promised.

I’m actually surprisingly interested in this. If it can do decent video it might be a nice replacement for my HTC Athena.
Any word if that Opera version supports flash?
What about street dates or prices?
I’m not convinced by that keyboard though, but love the form factor.
Actually scratch that. Is there even going to be a Europe based 3G version?
I know in Belgium,as Netherlands and Germany, they are extending their 3G networks for years already!
Those are probably the first countries to have 3G compatibility.
If it breaks through, living in those countries could give you the first 3G compatible networks on the main land.
Unfortunately the market isn’t really open to this, the average Belgian, Hollander, or German is not really interested in super cellphones or laptops on 3G. , and due to the economic downturn, a lot of these network expansions have experienced slow downs on their projects too(cutting on personnel, etc…).
i guess clearwire have some exclusivity on this but im hoping they re-use it for a wm6.5 or android device with cortex core, voice and hspa.
Does it run Coreplayer? That’s the key question if you buy this for video.
This might finally be the replacement for my iPAQ HX4700 from 5 (!) FIVE (yes FIVE) years ago, which remains my best pocketable multipurpose device (reading, video, internet, PDA). After 5 years. Seriously.
Coreplayer doesn’t give a demo version, but if you pay the 20 bucks and then decide you don’t want it, they are very good about a refund. I know, because twice I tried new versions and as they did not add to the functionality I had, I asked to return, and they did, no questions asked.
