Dell XPS 12 to get Haswell Upgrade and Big Battery Life Boost

With the efficiency advantages of a 4th-Gen (Haswell) Core and a slightly larger battery, the XPS12 is about to get even more interesting.

XPS Duo 12 Notebook

Dell have announced that the XPS 12 with Haswell will have up to 8hrs and 43 minutes of battery life.

“…the award-winning XPS 12 convertible laptop is now designed to be faster and more efficient than before. With 63 percent overall performance improvement1, the XPS 12 is 1.6 times faster, and now has up to 8 hours and 43 minutes of battery life2– over two hours more than the previous generation2.”

We got an average of about 5hrs of battery life out of the Dell XPS 12 when we reviewed it so even 8hrs would be a fantastic improvement. Obviously some testing is needed (we know that the battery life increases are best in single-task scenarios for example) but it looks like the advantages for Ultrabooks running on Haswell are clear.

Expect heavy discounting on Ivy Bridge models in the back-to-school period because Intel have announced that Ultrabooks on Haswell won’t come until at least the end of that period. Dell are saying the XPS 12 will be available in the “coming weeks.” Don’t expect anything in June!

Let’s hope they include a workable touchpad this time.

I had also issues with touchpad where mouse would just hang and switch windows for no reason. Also sometimes left click was registered as right click.

But they just released an update yesterday and seems to be working fine so far.

I get more like 4 hours battery life so probably this one would be around 6 hours which is pretty good. I wish they also would add dedicated SD input.
