It was a pleasure to join three smartphone experts yesterday evening for a podcast about the Omnia Pro and the reasons why someone who focuses on MID and ultra mobile PC devices is messing around with a Windows Mobile smartphone.
We have a good discussion over 1hr 25 mins (wow, I thought our Meet:Mobility podcasts were long) about the Omnia Pro B7610 and then drift into some good discussion about UMPCs, the Archos product range, Android and Moorestown.

That would be the first time ever that Archos allows alternative firmwares. So far serious hacking has been involved in all efforts to replace the Archos software on their players. Until no such hack has been discovered for the newest generation of Archos players, replacing Android is not an option as far as I know.

I found the podcast interesting and thought provoking. In particular: the more smartphones gain in processing power and storage, the more devices like the Celio Redfly make sense for the enterprise environment. And at less than $200US, they can also make sense for prosumers that want all their info with them all the time, yet be able to sit down at a coffee shop or hotel room and do some more serious data entry & manipulation work – the smartphone’s touch screen can be used for scrolling/mousing while the bigger screen (10″+ please) and full size keyboard transform the smartphone into a netbook…
