ASUS VivoBook S400 alternatives

Information from 01 Nov 2012.

As one of the cheapest touch-enabled Ultrabooks, the Vivobook S400 should get a large audience although a deeper dive on the specs reveals a few points of note. The weight is mainstream rather than class-leading and the spinning hybrid drive won't bring you the speeds you see on SSD-based devices.

One RAM slot free.

Acer Aspire S3 (2014), 13.3 inch, 1630 grams (3.59 lbs)
So the Acer Aspire S3 got a refresh. Design changes over the original S3 include a flat-folding screen and a more rounded style. A backlit keyboard, FullHD IPS touchscreen and Gorilla glass screen protection, 1TB ultra-thin (7.2mm) drive and WiDi support (as all new Ultrabooks) are in the specifications (see below for full specs). Highlight of the package is an Nvidia GeForce GT 735M graphics which should give you playable access to almost any game on the market.
HP SlateBook 14, 14 inch, 1700 grams (3.75 lbs)
A maximum of 64GB of storage is good (16 and 32GB also listed in the specifications) and when you pair that with 9 hours battery life, the dynamic OS that many many people know and love from their smartphones, a fullHD touchscreen, three USB ports, a MicroSD slot and HDMI you have indeed got something unique. We assume the Nvidia Tegra 4 processor is fanless too. Try getting FullHD on 14-inches with an SSD in the Windows PC world for $400!
Dell Latitude E7440, 14 inch, 1630 grams (3.59 lbs)
HP Envy TouchSmart 14, 14 inch, 2010 grams (4.43 lbs)
The HP TouchSmart 14 is an Ultrabook based on Intel's Haswell platform. What makes this stand above the crowd is it's impressive 3200x1800 pixels display. At 14" this will be the highest pixel density there is right now. There will be options for a 1366x768 or 1600x900 pixel display.
Razer Blade, 14 inch, 1880 grams (4.14 lbs)
“Designed for Gaming” says the advertising for the Razer Blade Ultrabook. We say you should look closely at this one even if you’re not a gamer. Haswell, 1600×900, 70Wh battery and an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 765M make this Ultrabook unique. The design is pretty hot too.1.88KG for a 14” Ultrabook isn’t the best you’ll find but given the battery capacity and the processing specs, you won’t find anything lighter.
Samsung ATIV Book 5, 14 inch, 1900 grams (4.19 lbs)
The Samsung ATIV Book 5 is a Laptop based on Intel's Ivy-Bridge platform. It comes with a 14" 1366x768 pixels touchscreen. With Bluetooth 4.0 Wifi a/b/g/n and a gig-ethernet port there are plenty connection options. One annoying bit is the optional mini VGA adapter, which has to be bought seperately.
Toshiba Satellite U845t, 14 inch, 1730 grams (3.81 lbs)
The Toshiba Satellite U845t Ultrabook is the touch-enabled version of the U845 in the USA. A budget Ultrabook launched at CES 2012 for $800 should have quite come competition in 2012
