The TP300, TP450, TP500 and TP550 Transformer Book Flips have just leaked ahead of an ASUS press conference. These Ultrabook-class 2-in-1s have a Yoga-style 360-degree fold-back screen and will come with 13-inch, 14-inch or 15-inch screens and offer Nvidia discreet GPUs and DVD options.
Envy, Split, Pavilion. Unlike my fairly clear understanding of the Dell and Lenovo consumer/business product ranges my understanding of HP’s is spotty. Is it just me? When our reader Brad Heath sent me a link to his Pavilion 11 X2 video I was surprised to see a Core i5 version on display and a quick search reveals that it’s new on the market and being offered for just $599 in the USA. Like the Dell Venue 11 Pro series it could offer a perfect balance between laptop and tablet if your primary focus is on productivity. There’s a true SATA SSD, Core i5-4202Y (1.6Ghz + Turbo) and the total weight is under 1.5KG 3/5 pounds. Price: $599 at Microsoft.com which makes it extremely interesting. [Full specs here.]
Ben gave us a hands-on with the Dell XPS11 last week so I wanted to follow up with my own video hands-on from MWC. I took the opportunity to get up-close with the keyboard and test it. POV keyboard video coming up…
The big CES2014 Ultrabook news summary is that there isn’t really anything major to talk about, which needs talking about.
Given that there were no major Ultrabook announcements or evidence of Ultrabook marketing at CES2014 we now have to think about the future of the Ultrabook and leading-edge notebooks. Importantly, who’s going to carry the flag for new PC technologies? Or was CES2014 just a break in the project to allow Intel to promote themselves in newer emerging technologies? What’s next for the Ultrabook, Ultrabook 2014.
HP’s 2-in-1 range is expanding with the HP Pro x2 410 which appears to be a variant of the HP Pavilion X2.
Official details aren’t yet available but HP does have a teaser page up which calls it a notebook. Reports from other tech news sites say it’s fanless, has an additional battery in the keyboard and weighs 3.43 pounds in total.
Lenovo have just launched a Miix 2 11 based on 4th-Gen Core with up to 256GB of SSD storage and optional 3G.
Like the Lenovo Miix 2 10 it’s a 3-mode detachable and it’s obviously going to compete in the Surface Pro 2 space although you’ll have to wait for April. The starting price of $699 looks good although you should probably expect a Y-series Core i3 for that price, like the $699 Yoga 11S.
ASUS are likely to announce a dual-OS dockable tablet tomorrow and it’s going to create quite some discussion about Android / Windows devices. It’s not that we haven’t seen variations on this (for years now) but as it’s CES, it’s ASUS and it’s two hot topics it’s bound to create a stir.
This is a post by Surface Pro 2 owner Hector Gomez who shares his battery life report after one month of usage…
When Microsoft announced the first Surface Pro it got hit with many reviewers claiming battery life was only around 3.5 hours. I personally got a good 5 hours, and yes, if I watched a lot of videos on it, it did drop down. Though I was able to get a full work day use out of it I accepted I would always have to carry the power supply with me for full-days of usage. That changed with the Microsoft Surface Pro 2…
