JKK, ‘Sash’ and I recorded the Meet Mobility Podcast 28 this afternoon. We spent an enjoyable 50+ minutes talking about Computex and what we think might be on the cards.
Check out the show notes and listen in at MeetMobility.
We’re all going to be there next week which makes the event twice as exciting! I’ll be at Computex as a guest of Intel so you’ll find breaking Intel-focused coverage here at MIDMoves. I’ll be covering the Intel keynotes where we’re expecting news on Moblin, Moorestown and the new netbook platform, PineView. There’s some mumblings about MIDs too. I’ll also be posting as normal in UMPCPortal so keep both sites in your bookmarks and check back regularly.

Podcast 26 is now up over at Meetmobility. We talk about the devices we used at CeBIT (nothing more than umpcs, netbooks and 3G modems for the whole weeks work) and the highlights of the show including the new offerings from ASUS, Gigabyte and the hands-on we had with devices on Intel’s ‘MID Wall.’ We’ve also taken the time to think about who and what we think deserves an award. We’ve come up with the ‘MeetMobility’ Best of CeBIT’ award.
Hop over to MeetMobility to get the podcast and see who won the Best Manufacturer and Best Product awards.

The Viliv S5 that has been sent for review and MIDMoves SXSW duties has just cleared customs in Germany which means it’s highly likely that we’ll not only do a live MeetMobility CeBIT roundup podcast tomorrow but also a live testing and Q&A session with the brand new Viliv S5. Ben and JKK also have the Sony Vaio P so we’ll add those two into the mix. Sascha from Netbooknews.de will be around too. It’s going to be a long long night of mobile computing fun so join us at 2000hrs CET, tomorrow on UMPCPortal.com/live or JKKMobile.com/live

Last weekend we, the MIDMoves team, finally managed to get together on Skype for a chat about how the first MIDMoves event (we’re planning another!) went. We recorded the chat as a podcast which you can listen to below. The hour-long session covers the events we did and talks about some of the positive and negative elements.
On the podcast: Steve Paine (UMPCPortal), Jen Lee (Pocketables), Ewan Spence (Ewan Spence), Nicole Simon (Cruel to be Kind).

At MBC09 last week I had the chance to talk to Sarik Weber of Cellity. [twitter, website] Cellity is an ‘addressbook 2.0’ and because of its nature, integrating with many web-based services, it has a big focus on mobiliy. I asked Sarik what he thought about the MIDs and you’ll hear the answer to that and a few other questions in the audio recording below.
MBC09 interview with Sarik
The audio recording was made using a Samson Q1U USB mic plugged into a Wibrain i1 running Windows XP and the free, Audacity audio recording software. It was posted direct to the site over 3G within minutes of the recording. More info on this setup here.

Sometimes, voice is simpler. Certainly when you’re in a mobile scenario, getting some audio recorded can be extremely efficient if you’re in a position to be able to do it. Most smartphones give you the ability to record audio but in my experience, you get poor quality, a fixed mic and no way to post-process. If you want to broadcast live, there are very few ways to do it. Using a MID or ultra mobile PC gives you the option to work in a higher quality and more flexible way.
I did some tests with an Intel Atom based Wibrain device recently and wanted to talk in a bit more detail about how I did some quick audio podcasts and broadcasts while staying mobile but still keeping the quality high and remaining efficient.
The key to being efficient in this case was being able to use processes, knowledge, hardware and software that I use in a normal desktop environment and to use a posting process that automates as much as possible.
