There’s a new type of laptop in town. It’s fast, fun and flexible and it’s called the Ultrabook Convertible. Intel’s new ads started running at the weekend so we’re guessing that there’s quite a lot of people on the search for more information today.

Toshiba has made available their only Windows 8 touchscreen Ultrabook, the Toshiba Satellite U925T. This is a hybrid slider which also goes by the name U920T depending upon the region. Chippy got a great hands on of the U925T back at IDF 2012 in September and the design seems unchanged since then. This is one of a few hybrid Ultrabooks currently shipping with NFC.
As we watched this ASUS Transformer Book video from Liliputing yesterday, we heard some talk about a price and immediately started to write an article while simultaneously contacting Brad Linder at Liliputing for confirmation. He couldn’t give it. Apparently the voice was from another conversation and as there were other devices on the table he couldn’t confirm. We have new information now though.

HP have confirmed that two Windows Touchscreen Ultrabooks are coming. Starting with the $799 HP Envy Touchmart Ultrabook 4 and going up to the 15.6” HP SpectreXT Touchsmart Ultrabook starting at $1399
The HP Envy Touchsmart 4 is already available to order with Core i3 or i5 and RAM up to 8GB, Hybrid HDD up to 500GB. The SpectreXT, (first announced at end of August) should be available to order soon and could be something of a challenger for that entry-level MacBook Pro Retina. A 15.6” fullHD screen, thunderbolt, Beats audio SSD and RAM options and a weight of 4.7 pounds are attractive features. We’re looking out for the fine specs – especially that battery which we hope HP haven’t cut corners on.
With an optical drive, a large screen, 0.5TB of storage and 4GB of RAM, Dell is positioning the new Inspiron 15Z right into the mainstream. For $749 (Core i3) and $799 (Core i5) you get a lot of laptop for your money. Options include touchscreen, BluRay, memory, SSD and discreet graphics but Ultrabook fans won’t be too impresses with the HD (“720p” – we’re assuming 1366×768 for Windows 8 compatibility) screen resolution.
We picked up on the almost-Ultrabook ASUS Vivobook S200 a few days ago. The ASUS Vivobook S400 (S400CA-DH51T) has now appeared in Amazon.com for a surprisingly cheap $699. This is a full Ivy Bridge Core i5 Ultrabook with touchscreen making it the cheapest touchscreen Ultrabook to date.
More and more touchscreen laptops are hitting the sales channels and they’re coming in at both ends of the spectrum. The Acer Aspire V5 Touch is a good example of an Ultrabook-alternative with touch. The ASUS S200E is another. Both of these devices are available with a Core i3 CPU which pushes them into the same processing category as an Ultrabook. The ASUS Vivobook S200E is referred to as a netbook by Amazon in Germany today.
Sony has announced that it will be adding a touchscreen option to the company’s first Ultrabook, the Vaio T13. According to Engadget the ‘T13-2’ can be speced up quite nicely — up to a Core i7, 256GB SSD, and 8GB of RAM. Pricing doesn’t seem to be confirmed yet, but Sony mentions somewhere in the $1600 range for the aforementioned top-end model. The non-touchscreen Vaio T13 now starts at the fair price of $739; it is unclear how much the touchscreen base model will add to this starting price. The touchscreen T13 is expected to go on sale as Windows 8 launches later this month on the 26th.
