Acer just ‘launched’ (how many launches does it take to get a device to market these days!) the Acer S5 Ultrabook in the UAE. The 15mm thick Ultrabook with the cool Magic Flip motorized port panel is said to be the thinnest yet. The 1.3KG (under 3lb) Ultrabook will cost, at launch in Dubai, Dh4,999. We assume that’s a zero sales-tax price which equates to $1361 at todays rates.

Notebookitalia have just reported on a 2012-2013 roadmap from Malata, a brand of the Wanlida Group in China. It includes a bunch of mobile products but interestingly it mentions ultrathin products in 13.3”, 11.6” and a 10” screen size. More interesting is that the company appears to merge the Ultrabook and netbook category by offering an Intel Atom Cedar Trail option as a CPU.

The popular Lenovo S205. An 11.6” lightweight notebook with AMD Fusion. A thinner, more powerful version of this with SSD and a $500 price could raise eyebrows!
AMD could be getting ready to show its first Ultrathin as early as January, a report from The Australian says today.
AMD have told the publication that they had held discussions with a number of manufacturers about Ultrathins and one of them was “particularly advanced.”
Interestingly, AMD aren’t giving any specifications out.
