We’ve learnt that the Asus UX21 and Asus UX31 will officially launch in a few weeks with prices ranging up from €799
At an Intel event yesterday I managed to get some hands-on with the Asus UX21. More testing is needed but given the potential pricing, this could turn a lot of heads toward the ‘Ultrabook’ brand.

Coming in at exactly the expected price-point, Asus’ Ultrabooks, that’s the UX21 and UX31, will launch in October at a US-based event.
This news comes from Digitimes who say that the entry level price will be $899 but the prices will be rising to a lofty $1999. At that price expect the Core i7 and 256GB of SSD storage!
$899 is $100 below the target price given by Intel in previous statements.
The bad news about the price is that $899 is only likely to get you a non-Turbo-Boost Core i3 (given that it has been listed as an option.) 11″ devices based on this platform are already available at 50-60% of the price.
Based on this news, it’s unlikely that we’ll see more than just production samples at IFA this week. We’ll do our best to get some hands-on though so stay tuned.

Calling it out as a challenger to the Apple MacBook Air, APC Mag seems very happy with the Asus UX21 Ultrabook they’ve recently had hands-on time with.
“Finally. This is the notebook that brings sexy to the non-Apple laptop world. But its beauty is not just skin deep.”
The article doesn’t go into any specifics about the testing done but does quote Q3 availability (Australia) and estimates a price competitive with the MacBook Air. Looks like we will have to wait a while to get specifics on the all-important battery life.
They’ve published a gallery too, you can find the article and images here.

While I continue to test the pre-Ultrabook Series 9 here (don’t forget the live session tonight) news is starting to come in about availability of what should be the first true Ultrabook, the ASUS UX21.
DigiTimes are reporting the news that’s come from an Asus product conference in China.
The UX21 is rumoured to use the Intel Core i5 2557M CPU at 1.5Ghz and at with the 11” screen should weigh in at a very portable 1.2KG. The price details are still unknown at this stage but we’re expecting between $800 and $900 for the 11.6” version.
So when will all this goodness land? September. That’s about right for an IFA or IDF event launch and we’re likely to be at both of those events so stay tuned.
