Lenovo’s New IdeaPad Yoga Ultrabook Convertible Ad Channels The Matrix, James Bond

Now that Windows 8 has hit the market, Ultrabook manufacturers want to get their devices into the spotlight. Lenovo recently launched some new ads to show off the IdeaPad Yoga 13 Ultrabook convertible. The Pursuit is a 3 minute and 30 second short action film in the style of The Matrix and James Bond. While the video might not pay off as a film, it certainly puts the IdeaPad Yoga 13 front and center.

Intel’s New “Ultrabook Convertible” Advertising

intelultrabookconvertible

Good morning everyone. Hope you enjoyed yesterdays live blog (still updating) on the day that Windows 8 was officially launched. First possible availability is today for all Windows 8 devices so watch out for the first discounts! You’ll see some disappointing ‘out of stock’ messages at Amazon.com though.

Update: Ultrabook convertible overview here.

Let’s kick off today’s Ultrabook coverage by looking at a new Ultrabook video campaign from Intel. 7 videos have just gone live and some focus purely on the convertible side (!) of Ultrabooks. Ultrabook first though in the “Ultrabook convertible” ads.

I had the chance to check out the Toshiba U920T / U925T slider Ultrabook at IDF last week in San Francisco and put a quick video together showing the slider mechanism, ports and screen which, is quite the glossy experience as you’ll see. There’s also an NFC demo – the U920T will be the first Ultrabook with NFC.

Intel Pushing Voice Control for Ultrabooks, Here’s the Demo. Would You Use It?

At IDF this week, Intel showed off a demo of Nuance’s Dragon Assist software running on an Ultrabook. Dragon Assist, currently in beta, is a Siri-like approach to PC voice control. Using natural words and phrases you can ask the computer to do a number of tasks. The demo that Intel showed on stage was quite impressive — it was fast, accurate, and potentially quite useful. But would you use it?

Hands-on With the World’s Lightest Ultrabook — NEC Lavie Z

Chippy is checking out Ultrabooks at IDF this week and he had a chance to get his hands on the NEC Lavie Z Ultrabook. What makes this unit stand out is its incredible weight. This is a 13.3″ screen; at just 876 grams, the Lavie Z is the world’s lightest Ultrabook in it’s class, even lighter than many of the Ultrabooks in the size class below it. For example. the Asus UX21A with an 11.6″ screen is about 1100 grams.

Floating Lens Technology Debuts in Nokia Lumia 920

I posted just half an hour ago on Google Plus…

“Stabilisation is a huge challenge for cameraphones because there’s not enough processing power to do it well enough in software and no room for optical stabilisation.”

Nokia may have solved the problem with “Floating Lens Technology” on the Nokia Lumia 920.

920

Technical details are unavailable right now but I’m excited to see that as it will a) allow slower shutter speeds (more light) b) reduce the need for xenon flash to freeze motion c) allow for longer zoom d) reduce video bitrates.

Update: Specifications and details are here.
